Le bébé riant

Today I was on the Metro in Paris - it was PACKED. 1 in 2 trains were running, so at each stop there was an enormous crowd trying to push and shove their way on the train. Tensions were, understandably, quite high.

All of a sudden, a baby starts laughing. At first, a few people let a sort of smirk touch their lips, but as the baby kept laughing, more and more people started smiling, trying to get a glance at this baby that, despite the train being crowded, despite the fact that you could have cut the malheur with a knife, was HAPPY. Looking around the train, almost everyone had succumb to the cuteness of that innocent laugh. It’s nice to know that the French have a soul after all.
